Travels to Granada
From the old gypsy caves above Granada to the Sierra Nevada mountains, re-visiting childhood memories and painting new ones.
Excited to be compiling illustrations with @loupblaster to create a book of images documenting the refugee crisis in Calais over the last four years.
Reportage series I did of the eviction of the Calais Jungle. A horrific week of violence; seeing a whole city burnt to the ground on the border between England and France. And still I am continuously impressed by the people who live there, their acts of resistance, kindness and perception within the European asylum system.
Before an eviction
These are two scenes I drew the week before the eviction of the Calais Jungle. The mood in the camp was heavy and tense, as people passed information around, uncertainty and confusion seemed to hang between every interaction. But many also expressed that they were used to this, born in a refugee camp, and hounded across Europe, the only thing to do was to continue with life as usual, in the restaurants, bakeries and homes- normalcy: an act of defiance in the face of police oppression.
